Overview

EIA is the sole custodian of the wealth of the federal government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Authority owns Strategic stakes in UAE-based companies and manages a globally diversified fund. Its mandate is to protect and grow the wealth of the federal government of the UAE.

The Investment Associate is responsible for monitoring the value and the performance of our investments. The position is also responsible for valuing potential new investment opportunities by EIA and/or its portfolio companies and for supporting the Investment Managers / Directors in other tasks being developed by the Strategic Investment Department team.

Responsibilities and duties

Portfolio Management

EIA owns important stakes various Govt. and Semi Govt. companies based in UAEand is the shareholder /custodian of a handful of other assets: the key responsibilities and duties are:

  • Monitor and analyze the shareholder, financial, operational and strategic performance of the portfolio companies against the developed strategy and key initiatives.
    • Develop and maintain a set of performance assessment tools and produce the required quarterly reporting
      • support in the development of the shareholder opinion and the onboarding document, onboarding new board members, review of board documents, and any interactions with the board and the management of the company
      • Work with government agencies (e.g. MoF) to support the interests of EIA and the Government

Provide input into operational enhancements

  • Identify areas for operational enhancements
    • Support the development of operational plans to improve the efficiency
      • Work with the management team to implement operational enhancements
      • Manage special projects to drive operational enhancements and provide EIA resources to manage implementation where necessary
      • Monitor compliance with operational recommendations and effects on value generation

New Investments & Strategic Initiatives

The Strategic Investment Department team analyses investment opportunities for EIA and/or for its portfolio companies from time to time. These opportunities can be investment by EIA in new Strategic Assets as well as inorganic growth initiatives in portfolio companies like Joint Ventures, International collaboration & tie- ups acquisitions, takeover or merger –demerger –spinoffs.

  • Supporting in the preparation of financial models ,sensitivities, valuations analysis, reviewing external sources of due diligence on principal investments, preparing peer-group assessment, and structuring and negotiation of principal investments

Reporting

  • Provide and coordinate information and reporting requested by the Investment Managers, Directors and CIO’s.
    • Support the operations of EIA’s Investment team, as requested.
      • Assist in the preparation of periodical reports to the Investment Committee and the Executive Committee.
      • He/ She should coordinate with portfolio companies for any ad-hoc reports requested by EIA and any external stakeholder.
      • Preform inter-company comparison with other sector/industry competitor in terms of costs, sales, profit, ratios, etc. Which will ensure the understanding of the portfolio company’s strength and weaknesses.

Self-Development

  • Adhere to Portfolio Companies industry practices and policies
    • Maintain relevant and current knowledge of relevant industry developments and trends

Skills and background

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree required. MBA a plus.
    • Relevant professional certificates an advantage (e.g. CPA, CFA).

Background and experience

  • 4 years’ experience in Consulting, Private Equity or Investment Banking
    • Multi-tasking. Ability to handle many priorities at the same time.
      • Analytical skills are critical. Extensive knowledge of Excel and the construction of performance management models. Experience with PowerPoint and the preparation of presentations is also critical
      • A high degree of understanding and interpretation skills of financial & costs statements with detailed accounting knowledge is a must.
      • Solid Knowledge of Investment evaluations principles and techniques.
      • Business analytical skills with experience and ability to identify red flags, areas of underutilisation of resources, areas where efficiencies can be created with cost control & value engineering, areas of risk management in portfolio companies.
      • Experience in Post, Courier, Transportation, or Banking is a plus
      • Fluent in English and Arabic
