Overview

EIA is the sole custodian of the wealth of the federal government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Authority owns stakes in UAE-based companies and manages a globally diversified fund. Its mandate is to protect and grow the wealth of the federal government of the UAE.

It is the Investment Operations Analyst role to support the Head of Investment Operations with the following:

  • Assists in ensuring efficient and accurate transaction execution, settlement, valuation and corporate actions processing
  • Provide Treasury function with timely cash flow information and forecasts reports
  • Assists with coordinating and managing effective relationships with internal asset management, legal, risk management functions and external service providers of custody, banking, tax advisory services and other service providers
  • Ensures EIA investment management and performance management systems are kept up to date through timely and accurate input, upload and verification of source data feeds.
  • Assists in in all matters relating to the compliance with all regulatory requirements such as Know Your Client and Anti-Money Laundering documentations
  • Interacts closely with the investment management functions in support of  planning initiatives and developing and implementing strategic business and operational plans
  • Assists with providing research and analysis and to reduce transaction costs, improve the efficiency and quality of processes and reporting through integration and innovation
  • Assists with overseeing the financials, compliance and taxation of EIA’s investment program to ensure that all regulatory and legal requirements are in line with the approved policies


Responsibilities and duties

Transaction processing / Execution Complete all necessary documentation as per agreed procedural checklistsComplete the transaction authorization execution, responsible for the transmission of instructions through to settlementAssists in the reconciliation of all confirmations from counterparties to ensure, accurate and timely transaction completionAssists in the maintenance of audit trail and responsible for the effective archiving of documentationResponsible for the smooth and timely communication of transaction execution details to accounting team prior to execution and post execution to facilitate accurate record keeping
Transaction Settlement and holding reconciliation Assists in the development of an accurate and efficient implementation plan to ensure investments transactions settle on timeAssists in the timely and effective settlement of investment transactionsAssists in ensuring that all necessary funding requirements have been considered by TreasuryAssists in the oversight to ensure all FX transactions have been executed by Treasury to facilitate settlementAssists in the monthly reconciliation of holdings with counterparties
Investment pricing / valuation Assists in ensuring accurate asset pricing from agreed sourcesAssists in the completion of monthly revaluation of assets and ensure effective communication of asset pricing to accounting teamAssists in collating accurate records and evidence of monthly asset valuation and responsible for its storage and archiving in a centralized location
Corporate Actions processing Assists in the effective tracking, accuracy checking and recording of corporate actions and interest flowsAssists in all corporate actions requiring decisions are referred to investment management in a timely manner for executionAssists in the follow up on settlement of corporate action receipts and distributions providing advance notices to third parties where necessary of receipt of cash or stockAssists in the provision of timely information to accounting team of dividend and interest inflows to facilitate accurate accountingAssists in the preparation of forecast of expected corporate action events annually updated quarterly
Treasury operation support Assists in working closely with Treasury team to ensure efficient and effective transaction execution and settlementPreparation of forecast cash flow information on a periodic basis to the Treasury team
EIA investment management and performance management systems – data management Ensures all relevant source data is uploaded or input to EIA’s portfolio management, performance management or CRM Systems in a timely and accurate mannerAssists in ensuring that complete verification, validation and reconciliations of systems data based on approved proceduresAssists in the investigations, archives, sources, collate, verify and reconcile historic data and upload into EIA’s system to ensure full data history is loaded, organized and maintained in an accurate and logically accessible mannerActively contribute in the efforts to improve EIA’s management and performance system in a logical and systematic manner
Liaison and relationship management Participates in creating effective relationships and ensure effective communication with internal investment management and risk management team to ensure that internal requirements are metParticipates in managing effective relationships with external custodians and banks to ensure that service providers are supplying effective services
Taxation management Contributes in acting as a liaison for external tax advisory services ensuring that tax advice on new transactions is communicated to the legal and investment management teams for reviewAssists in monitoring outsourced provider performance on accuracy and timeliness of tax return services for US federal and state tax returns and any other non-US tax filing provisions
Management Reporting Assists in reviewing the requirements tailor reports to meet executive requirementsAssists in the production of monthly management reporting in a timely and accurate mannerAssists in the assessment of potential improvements to reporting formats and delivery mechanismsAssists in the development of dashboards and reportsAssists in the completion of adhoc reporting on request
Research and analysis Assists in the provision of research and analysis and actively seek to reduce transaction costsAssists in the completion of adhoc research and analysis projects on request
Policies and procedures Assists in the completion of documentation of process chartsAssists in the preparation and review policies and procedures and make recommendations for changes

 

Skills and background

Education

  • Bachelor Degree, preferably in Finance or Management.

Background and experience

  • 1+ years’ experience
  • Have direct experience in a back office environment one of the following:
    • Operations function at Asset Manager with diverse portfolio of holdings across asset classes
    • Operations function at a Global Custodian
    • Operations function at a major UAE Bank
    • Operations at an outsourcing service provider
  • Familiar with the formation and rating of Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) – is an asset
  • Should be familiar with business practice and culture in the region
  • Excellent interpersonal and people skills
  • Basic knowledge of investment processes across different asset classes

Critical Competencies

  • Basic knowledge of investment operations full life cycle and methodologies, policies, procedures, regulations, international and local standards
  • Prior experience of developing effective links between internal and external banks, custodians, asset managers, risk management and other key functions within the group
  • Must be a strong team player with excellent  verbal, written, analytical and organizational skills
  • Must possess negotiating skills and high standards of integrity and ethics  
  • Ability to prioritize
  • Ability / willingness to work to tight deadlines
  • Detail focused
  • Excellent knowledge and experience in Excel
